This three-story brick building on the south side of Union Square was built in 1890 by B.F. Foster, an undertaker, furniture upholsterer, and auctioneer. Foster utilized the building for his various entrepreneurial ventures. Over the years, the two street-level store spaces have housed numerous businesses. In this 2002 image, the Army/Navy store occupied the east space while Hicks Jewelers, which was in business for 52 years, was in the west space as they prepared for retirement. Today, these spaces are home to a barber shop and a Verizon Wireless store. Special thanks to Martha Brown for sharing the picture with us!
