This old photo in the Historical Society collection captures the sawmill that once stood at the outlet of Osgood Pond. Water flowed out of the pond, much like it does today, powering the mill equipment and transforming trees into boards for local residents for generations. According to early records, there was likely a mill here dating back as far as 1787. The sign hanging on the building reads “For sale: this dam mill and pond.” More than 100 years ago, this sign gained popularity, and Milford postcards were made featuring the scene. The town of Milford purchased Osgood Pond in 1952 for $5,200.
