This undated image taken from an old glass slide shows dozens of people out ice skating on Railroad pond.  It was likely taken in the late 1800’s or very early 1900’s.  On the right, you can see the back end of the Congregational Church on Union Street.  The large church in the background is the old Baptist Church that sat where today’s TD Bank is on South Street.  The small buildings behind both of the churches were horse stalls, today’s equivalents of parking lots!  Is it just us or does Railroad pond appear larger than it is today?
