From the Historical Society’s archive, this Bernice Perry photograph, taken in November 1950, transports us to a time when Elm Street, facing east toward Milford, was a rural scene. The fields depicted have since been transformed into the sites of Hitchiner Manufacturing and Hendrix Wire & Cable. Notably, the homesteads of Benjamin and Nathan Hutchinson, located on Old Wilton Road, have disappeared, with Nathan’s house succumbing to demolition in January 2025 for Hendrix’s expansion. The road and railroad tracks are the sole surviving elements of this historical landscape.
